The Freedom Fireside held on Saturday, July 17, 2010 was AMAZING. The Hurst Stake Choir put on a performance honoring our Patriots and Pioneers and Bro. Schofield was our narrator and Bro. Heap put together a slide presentation of immigrants who have come to America as well as a presentation of pictures of Yellowstone; each playing as we sang our songs. We have dedicated so much time preparing for this program and we were pleased with the outcome. Bro. & Sis. Furgo are the most wonderful choir directors. They bring so much talent, dedication, committment, and fun to our practices and I look forward to every practice and performance.
We arrived at 6:00 and began our warm-up and "fine tuned" any songs. Afterwards we had a short devotional by Anita Romwell followed by a testimony meeting. It was very powerful.
It was hard not getting emotional during the performance. We sang patriotic songs and songs of life for the immigrants and the pioneers.
One particular song was a compelation of all the military fight songs...Army, Marines, Navy & Air Force. As each fight song was sung, we had asked that any man or woman that served in that branch please stand. When I saw my son and my dad stand, I got extemely emotional and nearly didn't get through the first part of the song. It was the first time that I had ever seen Nick in his uniform. Everyone was truly honored. One elderly, maybe in his 80's, stood up at the beginning of each fight song...it was truly touching. Nick couldn't believe how many people came up to him and thanked him for his service. You could tell he was/is very proud of his committment to serve this great nation.
After the perfomance, our family went to Red Robin's for an after performance celebration. Yum!
I love singing with the Stake Choir and am thankful for the talent God has bestowed upon me as well as the desire to be of service in this choir as we lift up our voices. Our practices for "Sing Noel" will begin in October. I'll be there...usually on the front row, right side. I've been told that I am vertically challenged. :-)
